DATE COOKIE OR DATE BARS 
1/2 pkg. dates
1 c. sugar
1 c. raisins
1 c. water

Cook until thickened and set aside to cool.

TOP AND BOTTOM:

1 c. brown sugar
1 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 c. oatmeal
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 c. nuts
1 c. melted butter
1/2 tsp. salt

In a greased 9x13 pan place 1/2 of the oatmeal mixture then spread all of filling. Spread remaining oat meal mixture on top and bake in 325-350 degree oven for about 45 minutes. Top and bottom will look a toasty brown. Cut in squares or bars while still warm. You may sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired.
