1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. milk

Cream butter, shortening, sugar, and vanilla. Add egg; mix until fluffy. Stir in flour, soda, and salt. Stir until mixture is smooth; blend in milk.

Drop by teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten with bottom of water glass which has been dipped in sugar.

Bake at 400°F just until edges start to brown.
