STEWED TOMATOES 
4 tbsp. butter
2 med. onions, minced
1 green pepper, chopped
12 lg. ripe tomatoes, peeled and cut in pieces
2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. white or brown sugar
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 tsp. basil

In a large saucepan, melt butter and add onions. Saute until tender. Add tomatoes, salt, pepper, sugar and basil. Bring to a boil. Lower heat, cover and simmer slowly for about 25 minutes. Adjust seasonings if necessary. Yield: 10 servings.
