STEWED OKRA AND TOMATOES 
2 tbsp. bacon drippings or other fat
1 sm. onion, chopped
2 c. sliced okra
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. cooked or canned tomatoes

Melt fat in fry pan. Brown onion and okra slightly, stirring as it cooks. Add tomatoes and salt. Cook over moderate heat until vegetables are tender and mixture is thick, about 20 minutes.

Stir occasionally to prevent sticking. Season with pepper and salt if needed. Yields: 4 servings.

For variety: Add 3 tablespoons rice with the tomatoes. Cook until rice is tender - 20 to 30 minutes. Add a little water if needed.
