GERT'S (SWEET AND SOUR) GERMAN
GREEN BEANS
 
4 gallon green beans
1 1/2 lbs. bacon, cut fine
1 c. onion, chopped
Grease from bacon
1 c. sugar
2 1/2 c. vinegar
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. pepper
1 gallon bean liquid

Drain green beans (save liquid). Fry bacon and onion; drain (save grease). Bring bacon grease, sugar, vinegar, flour, pepper and bean liquid to boil until thickened. Pour over warm beans. Heat well. Add bacon. Place in large steamer.
