SWEDISH GINGER COOKIES 
1 c. shortening (butter)
2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
2 1/2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda (baking)
1 tsp. cardamom seed
1 tsp. cinnamon, ground
1/2 tsp. ginger, ground
1/4 tsp. cloves, ground

Can use ground cardamom or buy whole pods and grind seed yourself in new pepper mill. 12 pods = 1 teaspoon.

Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs and beat well. Add sifted dry ingredients. Shape into rolls (in waxed paper) and chill WELL. (Rolls can be frozen.) Slice in 1/4 inch slices and place on greased cookie sheets. Bake at 400 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. Remove and cool on wire racks.
