MY MOM'S FRUIT COOKIES 
1 box raisins with water, cover, simmer 10 minutes & cool (save 1/2 c. water)
1/2 c. shortening
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. baking soda
2 c. brown sugar
2 beaten eggs
3 c. flour
1/2 c. raisins & water
1/2 c. chopped nuts (opt.)

Cream shortening, add brown sugar, eggs and raisin water. Mix spices and salt with flour (also soda). Add to shortening mixture. Drop by spoonful on cookie sheet. Bake 15 minutes at 350 degrees. Makes 3 dozen. Very good. Keeps well.
