GRANDMA'S GINGER COOKIES 
3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg
4 tbsp. molasses (1/4 c.)
2 c. flour
3 tsp. baking soda (sm.)
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cloves, ground
1 tsp. vanilla

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Cream together shortening, sugar, egg and molasses. Sift together dry ingredients. Add vanilla to creamed mixture. Slowly add dry ingredients and mix well. Form into balls and roll in sugar. Balls should be the size of a walnut (rather large). Place on ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 15 minutes.
