MOTHER'S DIVINITY | |
3 1/2 C sugar 1 C water 1 C white Karo syrup 3 egg whites beaten until very stiff 1 tsp vanilla 1 C walnuts Boil sugar, water and Karo until it reaches the crackle stage. Very slowly pour syrup over egg whites beating in until half of the syrup is used. Put the rest of the syrup back on the stove and heat again. Repeat slowly pouring and beating remainder of hot syrup into first mixture. Mix in vanilla and walnuts. Put on foiled and buttered pan. Let cool and cut. THE SECRET IS IN THE CRACKLE STAGE, AND SLOWLY ADDING THE SYRUP TO THE EGG WHITES AND LOTS OF PRACTICE!! |
