MY MOTHER'S OATMEAL COOKIE
RECIPE
 
1/2 c. raisins
1 c. water
3/4 c. sugar
3/4 c. soft shortening (1 stick butter + 1/4 c. Crisco)
2 eggs, well beaten
2 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt or less
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 tsp. ground cloves
2 c. rolled oats
1/2 c. nuts (walnuts)
1/2 c. raisins & juice

Simmer raisins in 1 cup water until the liquid is reduced to 1/2 cup. Cream sugar with shortening. Add 2 well beaten eggs. Sift together and add flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and cloves. Add rolled oats, nuts and raisin juice. Drop onto ungreased cookie sheet by spoonfuls, about 2" apart. Bake at 400 degrees 8 to 10 minutes. Makes 4 dozen cookies. Store in air tight container.
