MARY FLYNN'S FRUIT CAKE SQUARES 
2 c. chopped nuts
1 c. flour
1/2 lb. butter
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. light brown sugar
3/4 lb. candied pineapple, diced or
1/2 lb. candied cherries and 1/2 lb. pineapple or
3/4 lb. candied cherries

Spread chopped nuts over the bottom of a 10x15 jelly roll pan. Mix flour, butter, eggs, vanilla and sugar and spoon over nut mixture spreading gently with a knife until even. Press in chopped candied fruit. I like to use cherries and pineapple in red and green for color effect. Bake at 300 degrees for 1 hour. Cool slightly and score for cutting. Remove from pan. Makes about 48 squares.
