APPLE CRISP (OR PEACH OR PEAR) 
Place in greased 6 x 10-inch baking dish 5 to 6 cups sliced, pared apples (about 6 tart, firm apples). Mix the following ingredients together with fork until crumbly and sprinkle over the apples:

1 c. sifted flour
1/2 to 1 c. sugar
1 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
1 unbeaten egg

Pour following over all: 1/3 cup melted, cooled shortening, sprinkled with 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes in a 350 degree oven. Serve warm with cream or ice cream.
