CHERRY BARS 
2 sticks butter
4 eggs
1 3/4 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
3 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
21 oz. can cherry pie filling (other flavor pie fillings may be used)

Mix together butter, eggs, sugar and vanilla. Sift flour and baking powder and add to above mixture. Spread half of batter in greased jelly roll pan or high edged 11x15 inch cookie sheet. Spread with pie filling. Spoon remaining batter evenly over top and bake at 325 degrees for 40-50 minutes.

If desired, top with an icing mixture of 1/2 cup powdered sugar and about 1 teaspoon water drizzled over the top of the bars when cool. Adjust the mixture to a consistency needed to run from a spoon in a small stream, and be as artistic as you feel.
