BAKED APPLES
6 lg. baking apples
3/4 c. raisins or snipped pitted dates
1/2 c. packed brown sugar
1/2 c. water
1 tbsp. butter
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
Light cream or vanilla ice cream

Set oven at 350 degrees.

Core apples; peel off a strip around top of each. Place apples in a 10x6x2 inch baking dish. Fill apples with raisins or dates. In a saucepan combine brown sugar, water, butter, cinnamon and nutmeg; bring to boiling. Pour hot sugar mixture around apples. Bake, uncovered, in a 350 degree oven about 1 hour or until apples are tender, basting occasionally with the sugar mixture. Serve warm with light cream or ice cream. Makes 6 servings.
