BAKED APPLES 
6 lg. apples (Cortland)
6 tbsp. butter
1 c. maple syrup
1 c. whipped cream (optional)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Wash and core apples. Starting from stem end, peel apples 1/3 of the way down. Arrange apples, peeled end up in shallow baking dish. Place 1 tablespoon butter in cavity of each apple. Pour maple syrup over and around apples. Bake apples 1 hour or until tender, basting with syrup. Serve hot. (Spoon whipped cream over baked apples.)
