FRENCH COOKIES 
2 c. brown sugar
3 c. flour
1 c. hot water (plus 1 tsp. baking soda)
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
2 eggs
1 c. melted shortening
1 c. nuts or raisins

Bake in large cookie sheet in 350 degree oven, about 15 minutes. Frost with powdered sugar icing.
