APPLE PIE FILLING 
4 1/2 c. sugar
1 c. cornstarch
10 c. water
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg (optional)

Cook for 15 minutes, stirring until thick. Slice apples in quart jars - enough to fill 7 quarts. Mix together the apples and the syrup - put in jars. Process 20 minutes. Excellent! (Got this recipe from my friends at the apple orchard in Washington.)
