CARAMEL NUT SLICES 
1 c. soft shortening (part butter)
2 c. brown sugar, packed
2 eggs
3 1/2 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. nuts, finely chopped

Cookie sheet, 325 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Mix thoroughly shortening, sugar and eggs (one at a time). Add vanilla. Sift together flour, salt and soda. Blend in the flour mixture. Then add nuts. Form into 2 rolls. Wrap in waxed paper. Chill at least 4 hours. When ready to bake, cut into slices 1/2 inch thick. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet. Makes 12 dozen.
