CARAMEL NUT SLICES 
1 c. soft shortening
2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
3 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. chopped nuts

Mix shortening, sugar and eggs. Sift and stir in dry ingredients. Blend in nuts, form into 2 rolls 2 inches in diameter. Wrap in waxed paper and chill overnight. Cut in slices about 1/8 inch thick. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes at 400 degrees. Makes about 12 dozen cookies.
