NEVER FAIL DUMPLINGS 
1 1/2 c. flour
1 egg, well beaten
1/2 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. shortening
5 tbsp. water

Mix flour, salt and shortening. Add water and egg. Makes a soft dough. Divide into two parts. Roll out into very thin sheets and let dry for 15 minutes. Cut into small strips and drop in broth. Cook until tender.
