ENGLISH TOFFEE 
1 c. sugar
3 tbsp. water
3/4 c. pecans, chopped
1/2 lb. butter
3 plain chocolate bars
1 tsp. vanilla

Cook sugar, water and butter until brown, about 10 minutes. Stir constantly. Remove from heat. Add vanilla. Pour a thin layer into buttered 8 x 8 inch pan. Lay chocolate bars across hot mass. Spread evenly while still warm. Sprinkle nuts on top. Break into 36 pieces.
