APPLE DUMPLINGS 
6 cooking apples, cored
3 tbsp. raisins
3 tbsp. nuts
2 c. brown sugar, packed
1 c. water

PASTRY:

2/3 c. shortening
2 c. self-rising flour
4 to 5 tbsp. water

Cut shortening into flour. Sprinkle in water, mix well. Roll into a ball. Divide. Roll out pretty thin. Cut in rectangles. Place apple in center, put some of raisins and nuts in each apple. Fold pastry around apples. Place in baking pan.

Bring water and brown sugar to a boil. Pour over apples. Sprinkle with small amount of nutmeg and allspice. Bake at 425 degrees for 40 minutes or until golden brown. Spoon mixture over apples at least 3 times while baking.
