APPLE DUMPLINGS 
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. water
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
6 to 10 drops red food coloring
3 tbsp. butter
2 c. sifted all purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
2/3 c. Crisco
1/2 c. milk
6 med. whole apples, pared and cored

Combine sugar, water, spices and food coloring. Bring to boil - remove from heat. Add butter.

Sift together dry ingredients with fork. Blend Crisco in the resemble coarse crumbs. Pour milk over and stir until moistened and gather into ball. Divide into 6 balls. Roll each into 6 inch square. Place whole apple in each. Sprinkle each apple with sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Dot with butter.

Moisten edges of square, fold in corners to center and pinch edges together. Place 1 inch apart in ungreased 1 1/2 inch deep baking pan. Pour the syrup over dumplings. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 375 degrees for 35 minutes or until apples are done. Serve warm with cream.
