1 pkg. brown sugar
1/2-2/3 cube butter
2/3-1 c. water

Boil yams until almost done. Arrange slices in 1 layer of baking pan. Then scatter extra slices if you have them in a second layer. Pour syrup over potatoes and bake half an hour at 350 degrees.

Syrup: Boil together until almost as thick as table syrup and pour over yams or sweet potatoes. Baste 2-3 times so potatoes will cook in the syrup.
