MEAT SAUCE FOR PASTA | |
4 tbsp. olive oil 1 onion, chopped 1 carrot, chopped fine 3 cloves garlic, minced 2 (28 oz.) cans ready cut peeled tomatoes (or whole, cut up yourself) 1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste 1 tsp. black pepper 1 tsp. sugar 1 lb. ground beef 1 tsp. thyme 10 fresh mushrooms, diced Heat oil in a saucepan and lightly brown onion, carrot and garlic. Stir in tomatoes, tomato paste, pepper and sugar. Simmer gently for about 30 minutes. In the meantime, brown ground beef in a skillet with a little oil (medium heat) and drain off fat. Add meat and thyme to tomato mixture. Cover and simmer at least 1/2 hour, stirring occasionally. Add mushrooms and cook another 20 minutes. Mix with cooked pasta and add Parmesan cheese to taste. |
