1/2 cup shortening (Crisco)
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 egg
1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 cup chopped nuts
1 (6 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate pieces
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Preheat oven to 375°F.

Cream shortening with sugars. Add egg and beat well. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt, and add to creamed mixture. Add nuts, chocolate pieces and vanilla, mixing thoroughly.

Drop by teaspoonfuls onto a baking sheet, keeping cookies about 2-inches apart.

Bake at 375°F for about 10 minutes.

Makes 3 dozen cookies.
