I add grated cheese on top of meat and soup. I then crumble fried onions on top along with the tots. I also use chicken instead of beef for a good change. I cook the chicken in a little olive oil and then cube it.

I've been making this for at least 30 years. My original recipe called for 1/2 envelope of onion soup mix sprinkled over the bottom of a 9 x 13, top with clumps of uncooked ground beef, spread cream of mushroom soup over beef and top with tater tots. My children called it "Dog Food". :)

Made this tonight and hubby thought it was great. Almost licked the plate! He is terribly picky and it's hard to get him to eat anything like a casserole, with different flavors mixed in together... I would make it again but add a whole package of frozen veggies and two cans of soup. Can't wait for summer when I can use my own veggies. Broccoli florets would also be nice... anyway, a great comfort food recipe for cold winter evenings!

Although I have tried many variations for this casserole: my favorite is with 2 lbs hamburger, 2 cans of cream of celery soup, 2 cans of vegall mixed vegetables , put a layer of shredded cheese and cover with tater tots in 9 x 13 glass pan at 350 for 45 to an hour. Always yummy! sticks to the ribs!

My family loves TTC! I brown the beef with onions and layer that in the bottom of a deep pot 5 or 6 quarts. Then I put a layer probably 3-4 tots deep and then put another chopped onion over the tots then use one large can of cream of mushroom soup over that. Then I use a regular size of FROZEN peas then I use alot of cheese over that. Cover and bake until hot. Yummo!

Try a few dollops of cream cheese in it - gives it a rich and creamy texture. YUM!!

I've had this many times, but we call it moose turd pie. But we don't put onions in it, use cream of mushroom soup, and a layer of green beans

When I make this dish I do it in layers. I use cream of mushroom and cream of celery and sometimes cream of chicken. I put a layer of tator tots, then a layer of soups, then a layer of mixed shredded cheese. Then I start the layer over. Pop it in the oven till the cheese is good a melted. My kids love it! Serve with hot dogs or hamburgers.

Great recipe without any change. I did add some Palo Alto Fire Fighters Pepper Sauce when it was out of the oven, which was excellent.

Great recipe!! I added french style green beans over the cream of celery soup before topping with tater tots. Excellent for preparing ahead and leaving in fridge to cook next day.
