GARLIC BREAD - & - BUTTER
PICKLES
 
4 qts. sliced med. cucumbers
1 qt. sliced white onions
2 c. green peppers
3 cloves garlic
1/3 c. Kosher coarse salt
1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
1 qt. cider vinegar
1 tbsp. celery seed
2 tbsp. mustard seed
1 tbsp. pickling spice
1 tsp. mace
1 tsp. ginger
Cracked ice

Scrub, but do not pare, cucumbers; slice thin. Add onions, peppers, and whole garlic cloves. Add salt; cover with 3 inches cracked ice; mix thoroughly. Let stand 3 hours; drain thoroughly. Combine remaining ingredients; pour over cucumber mixture. Heat just to a boil. Seal in hot sterilized jars. Makes about 8 pints.
