RUSSIAN STEW
3 tbsp. butter
1 lg. onion, chopped (1 c.)
3 sm. Idaho potatoes, peeled & cut into 1" pieces
1 med. apple, cored & unpeeled & chopped (1 c.)
1 med. clove garlic, minced
1 (1 lb.) pkg. sauerkraut, drained
1 (14 1/2 or 16 oz.) can tomatoes, chopped
1/2 c. beef broth
1 lb. kielbasa or polish sausage, cut in 3/4" slices
1 tsp. caraway seeds
1/4 tsp. pepper

In dutch oven melt butter, add onion, potatoes, apples and garlic, cook 5 minutes, stirring often. Stir in sauerkraut, tomatoes, broth, sausage, caraway seeds and pepper, cover and simmer 30 minutes and potatoes or tender. Makes 4 servings.

A suggestion, Krauk's sauerkraut with caraway seeds may be used.

Russian Stew

 AK Ray (Alaska) says:
Substituted Alaska red potatoes, half and half cumin and celery seed and a pound of hamburger and this still tasted great. For an exceptional extra kick try making your own fresh Sauerkraut and adding to this stew. Nothing store bought can match the mellow flavor.
