FRUIT CAKE COOKIES 
1/2 lb. (8 oz.) shortening
3 c. brown sugar
4 eggs, beaten
2 level tsp. baking soda
6 c. cake flour
Grated peel of 1 orange
1/4 c. buttermilk
1/2 lb. cherries, candied
1/2 lb. pineapple, candied
2 qt. shelled pecans
1 lb. white raisins
2 tsp. allspice
2 tsp. cloves
2 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. mace

Mix soda with 1/2 of flour. Use this half to mix with fruit and nuts; which have been chopped. (I use processor and chop very fine.) Set aside.

Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and mix well. Add soda to flour and orange peel. Alternate adding flour mixture and buttermilk. Beat well. Add fruit mixture and mix.

Drop by teaspoons on prepared cookie sheets. Makes several dozen. Bake at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes.
