HOT BEAN COMPOTE 
3 or 4 strips bacon
1/2 c. sugar
1 tbsp. corn starch
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
2/3 c. vinegar
1 med. onion, sliced
2 c. (1 lb. can) drained cut green beans
2 c. (1 lb. can) drained cut wax beans
1 3/4 c. (15 oz. can) drained red kidney beans (other kinds of beans can be added)

In large saucepan or fry pan, fry bacon until crisp; remove bacon and drain or paper towel. To bacon drippings, add sugar and corn starch; blend well. Stir in salt, pepper and vinegar. Heat until mixture boils and thickens.

Stir in onion and drained beans. Cover and simmer over low heat for 20 to 25 minutes stirring occasionally. Serve with bacon crumbled over top.
