POPPED-CORN CRACKLE
2 qts. popped corn
1/2 c. salted peanuts
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. light corn syrup
1/2 c. water
1/4 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. light molasses
2 tbsp. butter
1/4 tsp. baking soda

Put corn and peanuts in large bowl. Mix next 5 ingredients in heavy saucepan. Put over low heat and stir until sugar is dissolved. Cover and cook 3 minutes. Uncover and cook over medium heat until small amount of mixture forms hard but not brittle threads when dropped in very cold water (265 degrees on candy thermometer). Reduce heat and cook stirring constantly, until 290 degrees. Remove from heat and add butter and soda. Pour over corn and peanuts, mixing to coat evenly. Press into buttered 15 x 10 x 1 inch pan. Cool and break into pieces. Makes about 1 1/2 pounds.
