MY FAVORITE POUND CAKE 
3 c. sugar
2 sticks butter
1/2 c. shortening or oil
5 eggs
3 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. milk
2 tsp. lemon extract
1 overflowing tsp. vanilla

Have all ingredients at room temperature. Cream sugar, butter and shortening. Beat in eggs one at a time. Add flour, salt and baking powder, alternately with milk, lemon extract and vanilla. Beat well. Pour into greased and floured tube pan.

Bake at 325°F for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Cool for 15 minutes in pan. Turn out on rack to finish cooling.
