OATMEAL RAISIN COOKIES 
1 c. raisins
1 c. water
3/4 c. soft shortening (1/2 Crisco, 1/2 butter)
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cloves
2 c. rolled oats
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Simmer raisins in water for 20 to 30 minutes. Cream shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla together. Add 1/2 cup water and raisin juice. Blend in flour, baking powder, cinnamon, baking soda and cloves. Add raisins, oats and chopped nuts. Drop by rounded teaspoonful onto ungreased pan.

Bake 8 to 10 minutes until lightly brown.

Bake at 400°F.

Makes about 6 to 7 dozen.

Pretty good, husband thinks its too much clove but the kids and I enjoyed them. They are not overly sweet which was nice.
