Rose petals, lots Orange peel, 1/2 c. for sm. crock full of rose mix Salt (non-iodized) 1/4 c. crushed cloves 1/2 c. orris root Any essential oil, a few drops Use a large earthenware crock. Put in 4 inch deep layer of rose petals, partially dried so they are limp. Immediately cover with a thin layer of sea salt (fine). Continue alternating layers of rose petals and salt until jar is filled. Cover and let set for 10 days or until mix has settled. Keep in a dark but airy place. Break up the rose and salt mixture with a wooden spoon and add dried orange peel, crushed cloves and 1/2 cup orris root. Blend well together and leave covered and sealed for 5 to 6 weeks. Shake frequently to keep well mixed. Add a few drops of any essential oil if on dry side and reseal for 2 more weeks. Potpourri is then ready to put into small pottery or porcelain jars. |
