BAKED BEANS | |
2 lbs. Navy beans 1 sm. onion, cut fine 1 tbsp. sugar 1 sm. jar molasses 1 lb. lean salt pork 1 tbsp. mustard 1 tsp. baking soda 2 c. milk Wash beans and salt pork. Put in large pot. Cover with water. Add onion, let soak overnight. Put on stove in same water and cook for 1 hour. Remove pork. Let beans cook just until jackets break. Add mustard, then soda, and keep stirring until soda dissolves. Put beans in large pan. Cut pork in slices and lay on beans. Add molasses and sugar over top. Add milk. Cook in oven at 350 degrees for 2 hours until brown. |
