1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
3 tbsp. cocoa
1 bottle red food coloring
2 c. Soft as Silk flour
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tbsp. vinegar
1 tsp. baking soda

Make a paste with cocoa and food coloring. Pinch of salt. Mix shortening, sugar and eggs. Then add cocoa paste and salt. Beat. Add flour and buttermilk a little at a time and beat well. Add vanilla. Last add vinegar to soda and stir into the batter. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes.
