BEEF IN BEER | |
4 slices bacon, 1 inch pieces 3 lg. onions, sliced 3 lb. beef for stew, 2 inch pieces Salad oil 2 tbsp. flour 1 (12 oz.) can beer 1 c. water 1 cube beef bouillon 1 sm. bay leaf 2 tsp. sugar 3/4 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. thyme 1/8 tsp. pepper 2 tbsp. red wine vinegar Cook bacon and drain. Brown onions in bacon fat. Brown beef cubes and place all three in casserole dish. Add 2 tablespoons oil in skillet. Add flour, stirring until darkened. Gradually add beer and all other ingredients except vinegar. Pour sauce over meat mixture and bake covered at 350 degrees. For 1 3/4 hours until fork tender. Spoon off fat and stir in wine vinegar. |
