MA MA'S SOUR CREAM APPLE CAKE
3/4 c. butter
3 eggs
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
3 c. flour
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 c. sour cream
2 to 3 lg. tart apples, peeled & sliced thin
1 1/2 c. sugar
Cinnamon & sugar mixture (topping)

Grease a 10 inch angel food pan and preheat oven to 375 degrees. Beat butter and gradually add sugar until fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla, continue beating.

In a separate bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and nutmeg. Add this alternately with sour cream to butter-sugar mixture. Spoon 1/3 of this batter into pan. Arrange 1/3 of the apples on top. Cover with cinnamon-sugar topping. Repeat until last apple layer remains on top. Cover with remaining topping. Bake approximately 1 hour. Let stand 30 minutes. Lift out of pan by the tube and let cool on rack. When cool, remove base. Cake freezes well. An absolute winner!
