HUNGARIAN GULYAS (MAGYAR GULYAS) 
3 lb. of lean beef, cut in chunks
2 med. onion, cut up
4 med. carrots, peeled and cut up
6 med. potatoes, peeled and cut into cubes
4-6 qts. water
Salt and pepper to taste
1-2 tbsp. paprika
2 tbsp. bacon fat

In pot heat the bacon fat and brown the beef and mix it around good. Then add paprika. Do not have a high heat so you don't burn the paprika. Put the water on the meat with the salt and pepper. Let that simmer for about 3 hours then add the onions, carrots and potatoes. Let cook until the vegetables are cooked.

Gulyas is thicker than soup nut more liquified than stew so you need to have the flavored broth.
