Generously butter a large cookie sheet (with sides). Place a single layer of saltine crackers to fit pan.

In a saucepan, boil for 1 minute, 2 sticks butter, 1 cup white sugar, and 1/2 tablespoon vanilla. Pour over crackers (cover all of them) and bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.

Remove from oven and sprinkle 1 cup (I use more) of chocolate chips over hot crackers and spread over all. Sprinkle with chopped nuts (about 1 cup) while warm.

Cool and break into pieces.
