RAISIN OR CURRANT BUNS 
2 c. all-purpose flour, sifted
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. sugar
4 tbsp. shortening
3/4 c. sour milk or buttermilk
1/4 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 c. raisins or currants, finely chopped

Sift flour once; measure. Add baking soda, salt and sugar; sift again. Cut in shortening. Add enough milk to make a stiff dough. Turn onto floured board. Knead slightly. Roll into a rectangle 1/4-inch thick. Spread with soft butter. Sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon and raisins or currants. Roll as for jelly roll. Cut in slices 3/4-inch thick. Place cut side down on baking sheet.

Bake at 475°F for 20 minutes.

Makes 12 buns.
