I just found this site today and I have laughed until my stomach hurts! Of course, I am an "old foggie" (75 yrs. old) and I cannot believe people post such silly stuff on a computer site!

I love the extended timeline of these comments. I wonder how many people didn't leave their two cents worth. The fabled "Tater Tot" casserole is like any recipe of economy, born out of whatever foodstuffs were at hand. What a great way to use up leftovers, too. I imagine many readers will get creative and may cook a old favorite with their new twist. Inspired!
(Purists can label non-tot recipes as "Mock Tater Tot Casserole"...laugh it off, cook it up!) :P

Ok Ya'll I've read all the comments and changes and still didn't hear the recipe for my tatertot casserole so here goes. I brown hamburger meat season to taste, put in a cake pan 9x13 is perfect. Add a can of cream of mushroom (mushrooms and beef are best together) then fill the can with milk and add that. Then just mix it good and make sure entire pan is covered. Then the next layer is the tatertot, no fries or chunks or wedges tots only lol, cover the entire pan with them I prefer rows and cook like it says on the tatertot bag. I like mine extra crispy so I may leave in a few minutes longer. Pull out and the next layer is 6 slices on velveeta cheese. Turn the oven off and put the casserole in just long enough to melt the cheese. Oh it's so good and simple. (Sometimes I add ranch to the meat and soup mixture if I'm craving ranch!)

Love the comments! Never thought I'd see that many about Tater tot casserole! My recipe was adapted from my mom's, she made it so much when we were growing up, we asked her not to make it anymore! Anyways, I use 1-2 lbs. browned hamburger, placed in a 9x13 pan. Next add cream of chicken/mushroom soup to hamburger.(You can also add a can of milk and a tsp. worchestershire sauce to the mixture.) Then add canned veggie of choice if wanted, or just add layer of tater tots, then cheddar cheese soup mixed w/ one can of milk, salt & pepper. Spread over tater tots. (Milk is again optional.) Bake uncovered at 350 for 30-60 min, until browned to your liking! You can also use cooked chicken & cream of potato soup & corn for a change, if you don't have the other ingredients. My hubby hates casseroles for meals, however he will find leftovers of eithor of these versions & eat them as a snack! :)

I think that your tots will be way too crispy if you deep fry them first but heck worth a try. Wow some really boring lives if the first comments were just so funny :) Well I'm going to make my first one but thinking about some onions and green peppers. Not so sure about the green beans.
