IRISH BREAD 
3 c. flour
1 c. sugar
1 tbsp. caraway seed, optional
4 tsp. baking powder
1 egg (2 if sm.)
1 c. milk
2 heaping tbsp. shortening
1 c. raisins (soak in hot water)
Good shake of salt

Place flour in bowl and mix in shortening until free of lumps. Add sugar, raisins, caraway seeds (if desired) and baking powder. Mix thoroughly. Beat egg with milk. Add to dry ingredients to form a dough. Place dough on lightly floured board and knead lightly, forming into 1 round loaf. Place loaf into a floured pan. Bake in a hot oven at 400 degrees for 15 minutes. Lower oven to 370 degrees and bake 45 minutes to 1 hour.
