Can you put 8 tablespoon of butter instead of 7? What's the difference?

I have always used Duncan Hines cake mixes as these are the best. The golden butter cake mix was terrible! I made it for my husbands birthday and we threw it in the rubbish. It was flat and had a weird taste to it. So disappointed. I wouldn't even give it a 1 for rating.

DH, not sure what you changed in the golden butter recipe cake mix but please change it back! My cakes do not rise anymore and they taste different! I have used this mix for years! None of my cakes are the same now! I have wasted time and money trying to make cakes and it has been awful!

I have used the butter cake mix for several years - our favorite. Since you have changed to butter golden it is not quite the same. Box says 7 tbsp butter. Recipe above says 1/2 cup and there are no high altitude instructions on the box & I can't find them on the internet either. Please let me know the ingredient change for high altitude. Thank you.

I agree with you totally! I have had the same problem, called Duncan Hines today... Customer service told me to add 3 tablespoons of PLAIN flour to recipe.. See if this helps.

I couldn't believe it! DH Butter Recipe has always been my favorite cake! We made it tonight. What happened to it? It didn't even stay solid like a cake. Did someone buy DH and change the product? I cant believe it. I also found the classic chocolate to be way too sweet. Would love to hear DH's response. What a disappointment. I make most baked goods from scratch. This is the only cake mix I would ever buy in the past. NO MORE! BTW, if you go on the Duncan Hines page, you will see diehard butter recipe cooks complaining about this new version of our old favorite.

DH, why did you change the perfect recipe for the butter cake mix? My cupcakes are no longer plump, but shriveled and my sour cream pound cake using the golden butter never rises much at all. The perfect cake mix is no longer on my list.

When your recipe on the box calls for butter, do you mean salted or unsalted?
 #43121
 Cooks.com replies:
Hi Linda,

Unless the box requests UNsalted butter, use salted butter unless you're on a low-sodium diet (the flavor of the cake will be affected by the lack of salt).

Salted butter is always used unless otherwise specified because it's more commonly in the refrigerator and cake mixes are formulated for convenience.
