1/2 c. shortening
1/2 tsp. lemon rind, grated
1/2 tsp. lemon extract
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 c. sugar
2 eggs, beaten
2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
2 tbsp. milk

Combine shortening, salt, lemon rind, lemon extract, nutmeg, sugar and eggs. Beat until smooth. Sift flour with baking powder and baking soda. Add to shortening mixture and blend; add milk and mix well.

Measure out level tablespoons of dough on greased baking sheets. Flatten cookies with bottom of glass. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 375 degrees for 10- 12 minutes. Makes 3 1/2 dozen cookies.
