VERMONT APPLE COBBLER 
6 med. apples
1/2 c. maple syrup
1/4 c. butter
1/2 c. sugar OR
1/4 c. honey or maple syrup
1 egg
1 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 c. milk

Pare and core apples; slice thin. Drop into 1/2 cup maple syrup; stir to coat apples. Spread evenly in greased shallow 2-quart baking dish.

Cream butter to consistency of mayonnaise; add sugar while continuing to cream. Beat in egg. Mix and sift flour, NPS, baking powder, and salt. Add alternately with milk to butter-sugar mixture. Spoon over apples, spreading smoothly with rubber spatula.

Bake in 400 degree oven 30-35 minutes or until topping is golden brown and cake tester comes out clean. Serve warm plain or with additional maple syrup or with whipped cream.
