WALDORF RED CAKE & FROSTING 
1/2 c. butter (only)
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1/4 c. red food coloring (2 bottles)
1/4 c. cocoa
2 1/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. vinegar
1 tsp. baking soda

Cream until fluffy butter, sugar and eggs. Make a paste of food coloring and cocoa. Add to creamed mixture. Sift flour and salt. Add to mixture with buttermilk and vanilla. Combine and add vinegar and soda. Grease and flour two 9 inch round cake pans. Pour cake mixture into pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes.

ICING:

1 c. milk
3 tbsp. flour
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix milk and flour; cook until thick and smooth. Allow mixture to cool. Cream together butter, shortening, powdered sugar and vanilla. Add cooled mixture and beat using an electric mixer. Frost cake.
