1 c. shortening 1 c. molasses 2 tsp. cinnamon 2 tsp. baking soda 5 c. sifted flour 1 c. white sugar 1 c. sour milk 1 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. nutmeg Cream shortening, sugar, and molasses. Add in salt, nutmeg and cinnamon, mix well. To sour your milk add one tablespoon lemon juice to milk let stand about five minutes or do first when you start the recipe. Add soda to the sour milk, just before add the milk stir in soda to dissolve. Sift in half of the flour mix then add sour milk mix well then add the rest of the flour. Roll out half of the dough on floured surface, about 1/4-inch thickness. Cut in desired shape with cookie cutters. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet in 350°F oven for 10 minutes. Cool and frost. Makes about 6 dozen. |
