APPLE DATE NUT CAKE 
1 1/2 c. flour
2 tsp. cocoa
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
4 c. McIntosh apples, pared, chopped
1 c. nuts, chopped
1/2 c. dates, chopped
1/4 c. flour
1/2 c. cold coffee

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine 1 1/2 cups flour, cocoa, soda, cinnamon, and cloves in medium bowl. In large bowl, cream butter and sugar. Beat in eggs. Combine apples, nuts, and dates; add 1/4 cup flour. Add dry ingredients alternately with coffee to butter mixture. Stir in apple mixture. Pour into greased and floured fluted pan. Bake 55 to 60 minutes. When cool, frost with Caramel Frosting.

CARAMEL FROSTING:

1/4 c. butter
1/2 c. brown sugar
2 tbsp. milk
1 1/2 c. powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Melt butter, add brown sugar. Stir 2 minutes. Add milk. Bring to boiling, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Gradually stir in powdered sugar. Add vanilla.
